Easy Fried Cabbage and Sausage Recipe

I’m back with another sausage and cabbage recipe! I can’t help it—these two ingredients are just meant to be together. Smoky, savory sausage and tender, buttery cabbage? Absolute perfection. So, of course, I’m always finding new ways to serve them!

We have plenty of go-to cabbage recipes , but sometimes I need something fast—like throw-it-together-in-30-minutes fast. (You know those nights.) That’s how this Fried Cabbage and Sausage skillet meal was born, and let me tell you, it’s become an instant favorite.

But if you’ve got a little more time and want something cozy, you have to try my Slow Cooker Sausage and Cabbage recipe. Let it simmer low and slow all day, and you’ll be rewarded with the most flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth cabbage ever. I made this often while stationed in Texas (Fort Hood). When our friends came over to eat, they EXPECTED it and would go to the store to get it if there was none already cooked. I learned to forget to cook it because they started to bring it, just in case I’d forgotten AGAIN. Linda

How to Make Fried Cabbage With Sausage

Prep. Chop up an onion. Chop up a head of cabbage. Cut up sausage into 1 inch pieces.

Fry. Add olive oil to a large frying pan and cook onion and sausage until browned.

Add the cabbage and butter. I know this will look like a lot of cabbage (that’s why you need a large pan) but trust me, it wilts down. Reduce heat to medium, cover and cook until soft, stirring every couple of minutes so it doesn’t stick to the pan.

Season. Add salt and pepper to taste, just a little dash will do.

Serve. We love serving them over mashed potatoes, is there anything better?

What to serve it with?

You can eat this “as is”, but I highly recommend you serve fried cabbage and sausage over these 2 options:

  1. mashed potatoes – my absolute favorite. Load up a plate of fluffy mashed potatoes made with russet potatoes and serve this dish on top of them. Perfection!
  2. egg noodles – my husband’s preferred way. Cook some egg noodles or be a real over achiever and make homemade egg noodles , put them on a plate and serve this on top. Delicious!
