Frosted Red Velvet Cookies Recipe

These red velvet cookies are so soft and chewy! Thick vanilla frosting is added to the top of each one making giving them a little sugar rush! Finally, we add a little bit of powdered sugar and sprinkles for decoration, and the cookies are ready to serve.

These cookies are a year round treat, but they are especially festive for Valentine’s Day and Christmas. Bake them for your family or bring them to a school or work gathering. Either way, they will surely be a hit!

They Taste Like Sugar Cookies!

Sugar Cookies are my favorite, and these Red Velvet Cookies have a very similar texture to sugar cookies. We are adding 6 tablespoons of butter to the recipe which is going to create a melt in your mouth butter sugar cookie.

How to Make Red Velvet Cookies

Spray cookie sheets with nonstick spray or place down silicone baking mats. This recipe makes approximately 24 cookies.

Add cake mix , cocoa powder, melted butter, eggs and vanilla extract into a mixing bowl and hand mix with a spoon . You’ll want a firm cookie dough.

Roll dough into 1-2 inch size balls and place on baking sheets, allowing a little room between each cookie to expand.

Cook until the cookies are set. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before you frost them (so the frosting doesn’t melt right off).

For the frosting, mix powdered sugar and milk together in a bowl. Dip each cookie into the frosting mix. This is optional, but I like adding a dusting of powdered sugar and sprinkles on each cookie.

Serve and enjoy these Red Velvet Cookies!
